What Your Dog’s Constant Barking is Telling You

If you find your teacup dog constantly barking at a passersby, other dogs, or even you, it could be due to several underlining causes. I will go over the root cause of the barking and how it can be addressed so that you and your teacup dog are less stressed and more content.
Some of the top reasons a teacup dog barks excessively or is overly aggressive towards other dogs or humans, has to do with one or more of these issues:
- Alert owner of danger
- Express excitement
- Get attention of owner or person/dog barking at
- Signal distress
- Express boredom
- Lack of physical stimulation
- Lack of mental stimulation
- Fear (especially smaller dogs)
- Extended periods of separation with owner
- Not enough exercise
- Loneliness (always in house with no one around)
- Environmental factors (loud, persistent noise, or unfamiliar location)
- In presence of unfamiliar people or dogs
To fix the problem, you first need to get down to the root cause of the barking. Below are solutions for hopefully fixing your dog’s excessive barking.
Indoors all of the time or loneliness
Is it because your dog is constantly indoors? If that is the case, find a time of the day when you are free to take your dog for a walk outdoors. Engage your dog in playtime and talk to your dog regularly so that there is mental and physical stimulation. If you do not have the time to interact with your dog, you may want to hire a reputable dog walker so that your dog is getting the exercise it needs which may in turn reduce the amount of barking.
Loud, Serious and Constant Barking
In cases where your dog is constantly barking, it may be worthwhile to hire a professional to reduce the amount of barking the dog is engaged in. Some of the techniques the dog tamer may employ include positive reinforcement (rewarding dog with treats for not barking.) Other ways a dog tamer may handle a loud dog is to use a “quiet” command that when employed, stops the dog barking.
